The Differences Between Juvederm and Botox
As you age, it may become more difficult for you to maintain your best look. Sometimes, a little professional help can leave you looking rejuvenated, refreshed, and a little younger. Two cosmetic injectables, Botox and Juvederm, can help diminish the appearance of wrinkles. Each option works a little differently from the other.
What Is Juvederm? Juvederm is a cosmetic filler that can plump up wrinkles, giving you a younger, fresher look. Certain lines caused by wrinkles are formed because your skin lacks the acids needed to maintain the skin’s elasticity and structure. This acid becomes depleted as you age, resulting in permanent lines in the skin where the muscles move.
Juvederm is a gel filler that goes under the skin to add support to the creases, thereby preventing the skin from falling into those lines. It is commonly used for the lines around the mouth and nose. Juvederm can give you smooth, natural looking results that can last for up to a year.
What Is Botox? Unlike Juvederm, Botox is not a filler. This cosmetic injectable works by paralyzing the muscles that move under the skin of the face. If those muscles can't move, they can't cause the skin to bunch into wrinkles.
Botox stops the superficial muscle movements that cause common wrinkles, like those around and between the eyes and on the forehead. Regular injections of Botox can actually prevent wrinkles from forming, making it an effective wrinkle prevention as well as treatment. Results from this treatment can last up to four months.
Depending on the type of wrinkles and lines you have, one option may be more effective than the other for your specific needs. Your dermatologist or medical spa nurse can help you decide which treatment is right for you. With either choice, however, you'll soon be enjoying younger looking, more beautiful skin.
